Seraphina's Awakening
(Book One of The Seraphina Series)
by
Sheena Hutchinson
For as long as she can remember, Seraphina Cross has experienced these visions that made her feel like there was more to life. It wasn’t until one moment, one accident that her life changed forever.
She awakens the next day a new person in more ways than one. With no recollection of past night’s events, she’s forced to adapt to certain sensations she is experiencing all while trying to piece together what exactly happened to her that fateful night. Her strange, hectic life doesn’t seem to make sense until she meets a handsome stranger. Only then does the puzzle finally piece itself together.
What she doesn’t expect is the new powers she has developed attracting all kinds of unwanted attention. Thrown into a world she never truly believed existed she is forced to come to grips with who she is becoming while staying out of trouble long enough to figure out what needs to be done to fulfill her destiny.

When a book opens up talking about Angels and Heaven, I tend to get skeptical. As a woman of faith I sometimes worry about what direction the author will go, but no worries here. Seraphina’s Awakening by Sheena Hutchinson is a fun third person story following a young woman who is about to come face to face with good and evil.
Her guardian Angel, Nate, is strong, protective, and at times, funny. Not only is Sera learning about spirits and other natural forces, but Nate is learning about the one thing that angels don’t get to experience: emotions. All kinds of emotions. This story is a fun thrill ride as Sera’s dreams start coming to life.
I liked how the author was nice enough to share the dreams and would switch the POV so we can see how others saw what was happening. My one pet peeve with the book was that in the story Sera is constantly telling people they are getting her name wrong.”Sera with an E” the last chapter of the book her name is spelled Sarah. For a minute I thought maybe there was a new character. Other than that it is an exciting adventure.

Book two of Sheena Hutchinson’s Series about Seraphina picks up right where book one left off. Our Fallen Angel, Nate, and Sera are still trying to figure out why the evil wants her. This leads her to a face-to-face with Lucifer. Sera has been “disappearing” during her dreams and she and Nate need to figure out what she is doing and why. We also learn that Jack is not who he seems. The evil is coming out in full force but Sera’s is excelling rapidly in her training. A few new clues do pop up when she gets a visit from her grandfather.
I like the romantic moments between Sera and Nate stay PG, with him being a fallen angel, I am glad he is sticking with good morales. What does make me sad is that we have lost info about her best friend Amanda. She was prevalent in book one and now we only get a small moment, as if her best friend is no longer important. It was like she was forgotten and then given an “oh yeah, here ya go” scene.
All in all, the storyline continues with the rollercoaster of emotions and actions. Looking forward to see how it all ends.
