Determined to find Rae’s killer, Marly faces a long list of potential suspects. It seems everyone has secrets or lies they are covering up… including the boy she loves. Can Marly uncover the murderer’s identity before she becomes the next victim?

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

I remember the day my best friend threw our promise back in my face.

Promises are meant to be broken.

It was always Rae and me, until boys came into the picture and screwed things up. Four years after our covenant, as she named it, Rae was missing. It wasn’t like her to take off, to leave high and dry, lacking an excuse. Sure, the past month had been dicey. Our heated argument caused a time-out of sorts, and had temporarily parted. But we would forever be best friends and there for each other, no matter what.

A sickening wave of worry rose in my chest as I walked over grass, wet with dew, toward the border of our property.

Determined to put this undertaking behind me, I crossed the threshold into the shadowed forest. I was certain it was fruitless—”She’s not there.” The wind took my murmur as a tendril of trepidation curled around me. Yet, I zipped my fleece jacket against the chill and went on. Last year I was in a similar predicament, hiking to our special place because she’d disappeared, and I found her, beaten with a blackened eye.

Why am I doing this again?

A voice in my head responded, You know why. The promise.

Book Blitz & Giveaway: Separated (In Midsummer, #2) by Jessica Frances (Adult LBGTQ+ Mystery Romance)

Separated
Jessica Frances
(In Midsummer, #2)
Publication date: July 3rd, 2020
Genres: Adult, LGBTQ+, Mystery, Romance

One jealous sheriff. One pushy Hollywood hunk. One threat. One undeniable attraction. One messy situation. One chance to fix it.

I’ve guarded my heart the same way that I’ve guarded my hometown of Midsummer—with unwavering compromise and integrity. I’ve never even once been tempted to let my guard down. That is … until I met Conner Sherwood.
It didn’t matter that I swore off all romantic relationships. Or that I wasn’t interested in opening myself up and likely getting hurt. Like a moth to the flame, I can’t resist him. I can’t stop myself from wanting something I shouldn’t. Even pushing him away didn’t stop me from wanting him. Unfortunately, I’m not the only one who wants Conner. He has caught the eye of a Hollywood heartthrob. How can I compete with that?
But when Conner starts to receive death threats and an attempt is made on his life, I begin to realize that there is more at stake here than having my heart broken. Conner is in danger being in Midsummer, and whoever is threatening him won’t be satisfied until Conner is no longer breathing.
What I know for certain is that I won’t stop until I catch the person responsible for harming the man I’m coming to realize that I cannot live without.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

“I’m sorry I haven’t been able to figure out who is threatening you.” Even I hear the frustration in my voice.

Why can’t this one just be easy? Why can’t I have this cleared up for Conner so he doesn’t have to keep suffering?

“I know you’re doing your best.”

“But it isn’t good enough.”

“Rocky,” he breathes my name, and I hate how much I love hearing it caress his lips. “Unless you can read minds, then I’m not sure there is any catching whoever it is. Everything they’ve done so far has led to a dead end.”

He’s not wrong. There was zero evidence to be found on his car that could lead us to anyone. The generic black spray paint could have come from multiple stores in any town or city. There was nothing unique about it, and whoever did it had worn gloves, since there were no foreign prints and the few smudges indicated as much. Of the very few security cameras in the area, nothing caught a thing out of place. And no one saw or heard anything.

The one thing I was able to narrow down from a witness recalling Conner’s vehicle without the vandalism is that it happened sometime during the night after eleven, which gave the perpetrator a blanket of darkness to keep themselves hidden from easy view.

“Still, this is my town, and I hate that someone is trying to drive you out of it.”

“According to you, I’m not staying anyway, right?”

My heartrate picks up immediately, dread settling inside me, despite expecting this. “Is that your way of saying you’re leaving?”

“I have no plans to leave anytime soon, Rocky. I like it here. Well, apart from being threatened and living in fear; that is.”

I’m not sure I’m ready to face Conner leaving, mainly because I know it means facing a lot of things I’ve been ignoring, but I’m unable to feel any relief, because outrage boils through my bloodstream that he’s being made to live in fear.

“I don’t care how long it takes; I’ll make whoever is doing this pay. I’ll bring them to justice.” I have to take several deep breaths to calm down.

Conner doesn’t comment, but when his hand brushes mine, the connection is enough to ease my anger.

“I’m glad you’re staying.”

I hear a rustle as I assume he turns to face me. My eyes haven’t adjusted to the darkness enough yet for me to know for sure.

“I’m staying. Not even death threats have run me out of here. It makes you wonder what else I would have been willing to stay for.” There’s heat behind his words, an anger that is justified.

“You’re saying that I misjudged you as someone who would just travel through town and leave me?”

“Yes.”

“And, are you also saying I’m too late now?”

Leonardo Cantrell is a painfully shy sixteen-year-old who cannot look people in the eye. One night while he’s volunteering at a homeless shelter, an old man forces eye contact and gives Leo the power to see Death.
His best, and only, friend—J.C. Rivera—thinks this new power is cool until Leo accidentally looks into J.C.’s eyes and “sees” his murder, a murder that will occur in less than two weeks. Stunned and shaken, the two boys sift through clues in Leo’s “vision” in a desperate effort to find the killer and stop him before he can strike.
Aided by feisty new-girl-at-school, Laura, the boys uncover evidence suggesting the identity of the murderer. However, their plan to trap the would-be killer goes horribly awry and reveals a truth that could kill them all.

Is knowing when and how someone is going to die a gift or a curse? And if you knew about your best friend’s death, would you tell them? Do you stop it?

That is what High School student Leo needs to figure out. Michael J. Bowler does it again. Pulling you into someone’s world and taking you along for the journey. If you have been here before, you know I really can’t get into first person yet Bowler has me hooked the instant I read it. His characters are recognizable if you have ever been around teens. Which, working at a high school, it’s a big part of my life.

Leo and his best bud J.C., opposites in looks and actions, but they both fear going through life without the other. This story is more than a possible murder mystery and how to stop it, but a story about coming of age. How as teens, or any age, one small change can completely change the course of action.

If you have a teen in your life, get them this book and one for you . You should not be disappointed.

Audiobook Virtual Tour: Spirits of the Western Wild by David Schaub & Roger Vizard (Adventure, Mystery, Comedy)

* Spirits of the western wild *

* David Schaub & Roger Vizard *

* Adventure/Mystery/Comedy *

Title: Spirits of the Western Wild
Authors: David Schaub & Roger Vizard
Publisher: Independent
Genre: Adventure / Mystery / Comedy

This mystical adventure follows a young adventure-seeker named Luther McCleron on a westward journey to learn more about his Grandfather. A series of fateful missteps take Luther far from his destination to a disheveled little town under the tyranny of a crooked sheriff named Big Willie. It’s here that Luther comes face-to-face with the legendary ghost of Monty: a curmudgeonly ghost who refuses to believe he’s dead. Luther just wants to get back to his quest, but Monty thwarts his plans by using Luther to take out his vengeance on Big Willie.

Through a catastrophic string of events, Luther and Monty find themselves hopelessly entangled in a combative partnership that escalates to the breaking point. Only by reconciling their differences are they able to uncover the profound connections that weave their fates together.

A mysterious book of premonitions, an ominous crow, and ancient Indian drive the mystical tone of this world; conjuring spiritual forces to help steer Luther on his journey through this western “twilight zone.”

All the loose ends resolve in a satisfying story of redemption, loyalty and ascension while exploring the mysterious nature of fate and destiny. Was all of this a coincidence? Or are we guided by ancient “spirits on the wind” that nudge and steer us along our path to assure that we arrive safely at our intended destination in the end?

5 out of 5 stars
A fantastic and Immersive adventure for everyone.
What a wonderful audio book and what a pleasure it was to be on this journey. Not only the adventure was captivating but also everything around it. The sounds effect and voices really bring it all together, you almost feel like you are right there witnessing all this first hand. The production quality is something I have never heard before. Very well done and I highly recommend it.

EXCERPT

It's eerily quiet here, aside from the monotonous sound of a squeaking windmill, long detached from the rusted pump that feeds the wooden water
tower.
Dilapidated wooden structures are mixed with colonial Spanish architecture.  Ominous religious relics are awash in the orange glow of twilight -- home of the classic Spaghetti Western.

Jasper leads the way, mumbling nonsensical gibberish to himself.
Luther tags along cautiously -- unaware of a stoic old Indian watching from the shadows of the abandoned post office.  This is Kickapoo -- eyes barely discernible inside the ancient crevices of his face.  From under his poncho, Kickapoo radiates the calm tranquility of an ancient spirit.  All-knowing -- silent and still -- moving only as much as required to breathe.
A small flourish twists overhead -- a remnant of the storm -- and a page from Luther's lost book swirls in and settles at Kickapoo's feet.
PUSH IN on the header:  “CHAPTER 2: THE DELIVERANCE.”
Kickapoo gives an appreciative nod skyward.  The plan is unfolding...

Shannon Review: Book Tour: Witches Protection Program by Michael Okon (Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Mystery)

Witches Protection Program
Michael Okon
* Urban Fantasy *

Title: WITCHES PROTECTION PROGRAM
Author: Michael Okon
Publisher: WordFire Press
Pages: 200
Genre: Fantasy/Urban Fantasy

Wes Rockville, a disgraced law-enforcement agent, gets one last chance to prove himself and save his career when he’s reassigned to a 232-year-old secret government organization.

The Witches Protection Program.

His first assignment: uncover a billion-dollar cosmetics company’s diabolical plan to use witchcraft for global domination, while protecting its heiress Morgan Pendragon from her aunt’s evil deeds. Reluctantly paired with veteran witch protector, Alastair Verne, Wes must learn to believe in witches…and believe in himself.

Filled with adventure and suspense, Michael Okon creates a rousing, tongue-in-cheek alternate reality where witches cast spells and wreak havoc in modern-day New York City.

I have become a huge fan of Michael Okon after reading Monsterland and Monsterland Reanimated, while anxiously awaiting the third installment of that series. I was thrilled to get an opportunity to read his new book, Witches Protection Program. I was not dissapointed!

Once again, Okon has crafted an intelligent, and fun while somewhat frightening world. His characters are once again, layered and mostly likeable. I had some issues with Wes being in complete denial even when he has just seen something, that was frustrating and I really wanted to punch him. Despite that, I did like him, eventually, LOL!

If you love a paranormal mystery, modern magic story, this is for you! Okon has an easy to read style and is exceptional at moving his writing forward without too much description and keeping the reader engaged. I read this one in a few days.

Praise:

Witches Protection Program is a great summer choice, ideal for beach or poolside reading, and with elements of romance, action, crime, and fantasy, there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy.”—Foreword Reviews

“…mixes predictable elements–corporate intrigue, sexy witches, cat familiars, car chases, family secrets, and steampunk weaponry–into an enjoyable story.’—Publisher’s Weekly

“Cleverly offbeat, often cheeky, and loads of fun.”Kirkus

WITCHES PROTECTION PROGRAM is a fun and quick read, and the out-of-the-norm narrative choices make the novel feel like something wonderfully subversive.” – IndieReader

Witches Protection Program is a unique gem, one that’s fast-paced with twists, action, and fun characters.” – Reviewed by Liz Konkel for Readers’ Favorite, Five Star Review

Witches Protection Program will hook you if not for the action, then the romance and if not for the romance, then the sheer humor, what with its funny dialogue.” – Liezl Ruiz, NetGalley Reviewer

The narrator filled in more information. “It wasn’t until this land became my land that the government decided to create an organization to protect women at risk. The Davina Doctrine went against everything that the Willas stood for. Even though they ran the risk of persecution, the Davinas chose to work with law enforcement to expose the evil deeds of the rival sisterhood. President George Washington established secret legislation under Title VI of the Control Act of 1792. The law was enacted to protect the good witches that exposed the evil deeds of their sisterhood.”
The screen went dark. There was only a chair in the center of a dimly lit stage. A single spotlight focused on the top of the blond actress’s head. Wes was right; it was the actress he’d suspected. She had a hit sitcom and two Emmys, and there was some recent Oscar talk about her last movie.
“Yes. There are witches. Living among us. They are women who believe in using their power to protect love and life. And then there are some who use their powers for all the wrong reasons.”

The camera came to rest on her beautiful face. She winked saucily as she placed a triangular witch’s hat on her head.

“Welcome to the WitchesProtection Program.”

Alastair smiled broadly. “I love that part.”
“That was Jennifer Anis—”
