Review: Do It Yourself by Nikky Kaye

Sarah began her DIY education by ditching the biggest tool in her garage—her husband. Now after her divorce, she’s realizing that not just her marriage was boring, beige and transitional. She wants to renovate herself, but she’s in over her head.

Luckily, Chris the hot young handyman is teaching her how to screw, drill, and hammer—and also how to use her power tools.

Together they’re updating her wiring and unclogging her pipes. But when Sarah worries that she’s treating Chris like her own personal power tool, what will she do? Will she pull the plug?

DO IT YOURSELF is a funny, sexy 25,000-word novella about assertiveness, assumptions, and assitude. It's rated M for Metaphor-heavy!

I am not usually a big fan of first person reads. You have to grab my attention and keep me reeling, well Do It Yourself by Nikky Kaye did just that.

The character Sarah shares her life after a divorce and taking on a remodeling project by herself. Hitting her limit, handy man Chris comes to save the day. Not just in remodeling her bathroom but her life as well. This story reads as if you are talking to your girlfriend as she shares her sexy new adventures with a younger man. This fun quick read will have you in giggles as well as give you some new fantasies.

I enjoyed the conversations Sarah and Chris shared comparing bathrooms and relationship. You will never look at a bathroom the same again. Have a cocktail in hand while catching up with your new BFF. This story will have you blushing and wanting more.

Book Excerpts

Excerpt #1
“What is your name?” Harrison asked me, drawing my attention back to him.
I gave him a small smile. “Does it matter?”
“Yes, I’d like to know.”
“You like your regional cuisine to have a name?” I raised an eyebrow at him.
His jaw clenched. “My brother is an idiot. I don’t feel the same way about humans as he does.”
As Harrison stepped closer, I felt my heartbeat quicken. I should be talking him out of biting me. I should be telling him I have some horrible communicable disease. I should be pulling out my gun. Instead, I was staring at his mouth, curious about how it would feel to have his fangs puncture my neck.
It would be a bold move, bold enough that perhaps Wyvern would dissolve the contract.
Harrison’s chest was inches from mine and I knew that this was the moment for me to voice an objection. There were about a thousand reasons why I should do everything in my power to stop him.
Yet, ever since that moment I broke things off with Wyvern, I’d felt lost, so much more alone than I’d ever been before Wyvern blasted through my life. For the first time in a long time, standing here in this very dangerous situation with this very dangerous stranger, I didn’t feel lonely.
Harrison’s hands touched my arms and gently moved up and down. “You’re shivering, are you cold?”
“No,” I whispered, looking up at him.
“Tell me your name.” His gaze again moved over my face slowly.
“I don’t want to have a name right now, please.” My heart picked up speed as he leaned in.
Adrenaline and a dangerous curiosity pumped through me from my stomach and I let my head fall to the side just slightly, showing him my neck.
Harrison’s canines lengthened as his head moved forward.

Excerpt #2
The look Wyvern turned on me was full of heat and interest, as if I’d shut the door hoping for a make-out session. I needed to squash that right now.
“Wyvern,” I snapped. “No more kissing, hand holding, or holding me for more than like a minute, okay? This is getting out of hand. We’re friends.”
“But a minute is okay?” he asked, with a mischievous smile. In an instant he had his arms wrapped tightly around me and I was pressed to his chest. “Because a minute is a pretty long time to hold you, let me show you: one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand…” His arms moved up and down my back as he spoke.
“Ugh, ten seconds, you can hold me for no longer than ten seconds,” I said.
He leaned back, looking down at me, “What if it was ten second kisses instead.”
I swallowed hard. “No kissing.”
“Are you sure?” he asked, leaning in so close I could smell his sweet, spicy breath.
I nodded, glancing between his eyes and his lips.
“Not even for this long?” he asked as his lips came down and brushed gently against mine for one second.
When he pulled back, I nodded again, then remembering what he asked, and I shook my head instead.
“How about for this long?” His lips met mine with a sudden hungry intensity that I wasn’t expecting. His hands buried in my hair while his lips pushed against mine, sucking on my lower lip before his tongue entered my mouth.
I lifted to my toes, unable to stop myself from kissing back. I grabbed onto his jacket and opened my mouth to his kiss. My lips were as hungry on his as his were on mine.
My breaths were coming hard and fast when he broke away. “You play so dirty,” I whispered.
“I always will.” He grabbed me, holding me tightly against him. “I’ve missed you so much, Dakota,” he whispered into my hair.
It was like I could literally feel him reeling me back in. And it wasn’t with one of those cheap plastic fishing lines either, he was reeling me in with a giant net. It didn’t matter how much I struggled, the net would always win.

Excerpt #3
Wyvern vanished.
One minute there was a growing mass of limbs the size of a mid-sized car sprawling across the golf course lawn, the next, only my little eastern portal purse sat nestled in the grass. That strange shimmering line between us did not vanish, it instead changed its direction to lead straight down to the ground.
I looked back up to my uncle Glacier.
He shook his head ever so slightly. “Do not even think about it. That’s an order Dakota!”
“I’m suspended from taking orders!” I dove for the purse. A second later, three bodies smacked into mine, pining me to the ground.
When one of my not-so-well-known uncles and cousin soldiers wrested me into showing both my hands, Glacier looked at my closed mouth where I had already shoved the purse in, sticking my tongue through the portal.
I looked up at Glacier, seeing the pure terror wafting off his soul as he shoved his fingers into the sides of my jaw. His soul was a solar flare of fear; I’d never seen so much fear condensed into one place before. His thumbs dug into the sides of my face.
Even though I was sure I was going to have two perfect bruises, I locked my jaw.
“Damn it, Dakota!”
I straightened my lips into a sort-of smile. I couldn’t help it; I’d never heard Glacier swear before in my entire life.
“Don’t do this! At least let me go with you!” he shouted in my face.
I shook my head, sudden tears coursing down my face. My last thought was, ‘oh gods, I hope Wyvern cleared a path for me,’ as my body was suddenly stretched like a noodle and pulled through the portal.

Book Tour: Mrs. Field's Journal by Charles Campbell

About the Book

Title: Mrs. Fields’ Journal
Author: Charles Campbell
Genre: Horror

It was 1987 and children were disappearing in Millen, GA. Eleven year olds, Reggie Murphy and Tonya Benson, were a couple that seemed destined to be together forever until tragedy in the form of Agnes Fields interfered with their destiny.

Twenty five years later, as Agnes lay dying in her hospital bed she pointed to an old, tattered leather bag. The young nurse got more than she bargained for when all was revealed in Mrs. Fields’ Journal.

Author Bio

My name is Charles Campbell and I live in North Augusta, SC with my lovely wife, Amy and two children, Brooke and Seth. I had a real passion for writing way, way, way back in high school and actually wrote a novel entitled, The Burning Light. It never saw the light of day outside of a few friends and an Economics teacher. The itch hit me in a real way earlier this year and I put fingers to keyboard and finished Black Tears back in March of 2014. That was a great practice run.

So, four self-published books later, I continue to write. I think I have gotten better with every book in my story telling. That’s the most important thing to me; telling a compelling story – a story that keeps you turning the page. A story that is hard to put down. That is what I continue to strive for. And, I believe that is what I have in my latest novel, Cinnamon Tea. The early Amazon and Goodreads reviews are mostly positive.

Mrs. Fields’ Journal has been the one most people point to and say, “Man, that was a great story. It really should be a movie.” And while that makes me feel really good, the feedback I received and continue to receive for Just Breathe is a bit more mixed. Ranging from, “This is the best thing you’ve written” to “I don’t really get it.” The funny thing is I understand both points of view because it is a head-trip of a story but that’s what made it my favorite…that was, until this one cropped up in my head.

Cinnamon Tea is pretty linear, so there isn’t a ton of characters. Nor are there a lot of back jumps (there are some, but none as drastic as the jumps between the fifties and the eighties that you find in Just Breathe. I’ll continue to write as long as I have folks that want to read my words. All I can say is Thank YOU for the continued support.

Review: Mowed by Grace Risata

Curvy girl Pepper is accustomed to flying under everyone’s radar. Being a big girl hasn’t led to many dates or exciting adventures. All of that was about to change.

Through the small-town rumor mill, Pepper learns her old teenage crush just moved back to town. Jason was the star quarterback, prom king, and also Pepper’s neighbor from across the street.

One day he sees Pepper out mowing the lawn and makes her an offer of no-strings attached, no-holds barred sex that has the potential to benefit them both.

Nothing quite turns out the way either of them thought it would.

Click to look inside and find out what happens when the simple act of mowing the lawn turns into so much more…

WARNING: This story contains a plentiful amount of graphic sex scenes (over EIGHT of them…yes, I counted…including ones involving Barbeque Sauce, Pirates, Ice Cubes, and Handcuffs). They are all M/F and absolutely consensual. If you’re looking for a sick, twisted, dark tale – please go elsewhere, you will NOT find it here. All my stories come with a guarantee that you will crack a smile, find a happily-ever-after ending, and never have to deal with an annoying cliffhanger. There’s also no cheating, no love triangles, no unicorns, and no murder.

I have reviewed a story before by author Grace Risata and once again she has knocked it out of the park with Mowed. The book opens with a story from another “novel”. It threw me at first until I realized that Pepper, her leading lady, was reading. Pepper is a fun-loving, witty woman who has weight issues. Her high school crush, Jason, has moved back home and things get hot. Both have their own demons they are battling but when they get together sparks fly.

I liked the realism of Pepper and her body issues. I think most of us women do and when for so long you have felt uncomfortable about how you look, especially when naked, its hard at first to be comfortable when you are vulnerable in front of a hot looking man. These two are have real conversations when it comes to sex. And the sex…damn. There is enough info given to let your imagination run wild.

I read this in two days, does that tell you how much I enjoyed it? This author is two for two with me. Not been disappointed yet and I don’t think you will be either.

About the Author

I would first and foremost like to thank everyone for taking the time to give my stories a chance. My goal is to take you out of your world, and all the stresses that go along with everyday life, and bring you into my world of romance and fantasy. I have a special weakness for hot alpha males and the feisty heroines who love them. Above all else, I hope you got a laugh out of my book. I aim to incorporate as much comedy into my romance as is humanly possible.

My professional biography is as follows (I’m not sure why it’s in the third person, evidently that’s the rule): Grace is happiest when reading, eating Portillos hot dogs, and patiently waiting for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

Blog Tour: Operation Fit-Ish by Shannon Myers

What’s a comic book nerd to do when she’s dumped by her not-quite-a-superhero fiancé just weeks before the wedding? Tempting as it is to drown her sorrows in ice-cream, Dakota decides that maybe she’ll keep that appointment with the personal trainer who was going to help her squeeze into her dress after all.

She soon realizes that while she’s not quite ready to ditch her Avengers T-shirt for a Spandex crop top just yet, being at the gym does have some perks. Like semi-stalking Zane, the cute blond guy who looks a lot like Thor…

But while Zane may not be a Norse god, he does have a secret. One that brings him closer to Dakota, and brings Dakota closer to danger.

Is Zane the superhero she’s been waiting for her whole life? Will he swoop in and save the day? Or is he the villain whose superpower is the ability to break her heart?
